My App, Thirst Counter

Built my first app! It’s called Thirst Counter, it is built off the SwiftUI framework using Swift. Very simple app that does one thing, helps you calculate how much water (or liquid of your choosing) you drink every day. You can set a goal and it resets every day at 12 AM.

The goal of the app was for it to be a fast and simple way to show the amount of liquid you drink everyday but I wanted to add pleasant features to it to make it a joy to use on iOS.

It started with a very simple idea, make an app that records liquids and shows you what you had today. This was a layout I drew at my FIU hackathon in early 2019.

I thought about it and felt we are so data centric and we care more about what happened yesterday affecting days to come to calculate predictions in the future that we often get caught up in. I wanted to test my skills and both design and program an app (Which was very difficult), but not over complicate what is already done and do something different. I had to think of ideas on how I can market something like this app, since there are so many of them in the App Store (some very great ones) all of the liquid calculating apps mainly focus on data overtime and some people find that really useful. I really try to focus on experiences we have in the moment, everyday is different with many variables and inspirations that aren’t data centric. With the total liquid on the top and experiences such as the haptic feedback when putting in different inputs I wanted to land this experience all without tutorials on how to use it.

From the moment you launch it, I want the user to be familiar with what to do.

I condensed multiple pages of layouts to just a few pages with the main functions sticking to one page, this was a huge design change that I think is going to pay off. I’m going to feature design stories of different functions for my app to show and go through the thought process that I went through before I implemented in the app so stay tuned for those stories! I’m super excited to finally go in-depth with the process and really showcase the hard work that I put into this project.

Final Thoughts

If you got through this read, thank you for the support and time. I tried to condense it as much as I can, I hope you look forward to my future design stories and challenges that I had. Until next time!

P.S: I intend to keep this app free with the option of a donation. I believe this can help inspire other people to set out any goals both health, design, or development as I have.

Cheers,

Jordan Lee
